Sir Patrick Moore 1923 - 2012

We are saddened to hear the news that Sir Patrick Moore passed away today. He was our third guest on our podcast back in March 2010. Dave interviewed him at his house in Selsey Walsh, it was in the morning and Sir Patrick was still in his dressing gown. A podcast first! (and last!).

I have been inspired by his programmes both as a teenager and as an adult, and he is instrumental in my interest in the night sky. He will leave a massive hole (maybe a black hole?) in science broadcasting, and will not be easily replaced on the Sky at Night.

Although our podcasts have vanished from their online home I have managed to put the Patrick Moore interview online, click the link below...

Words have finally failed us...

Words Fail Me at the Sony Nominations

As you have probably guessed by now we have brought the Words fail Me podcast to an end, I think the clue that it had had its day was when our Podbean subscription finished in May this year, and neither me, nor Dave, noticed!

I am afraid that none of the old podcasts are available online, they all vanished when we failed to pay our Podbean subscription! We had a fun two and a half years, met some amazing people, and got at least 300 downloads for every episode (The Mark Kermode episode was most popular though, with 600 downloads!)

The reasons for bringing it to an end were mostly geographically based, with Dave in the Westcountry and me up here in the South East, getting time to meet up was getting harder and harder, and we were trying to record two or three episodes at a time, which was draining, and left some episodes feeling flat.

Thank you all for listening these past years, we must of course thank Kat Arney of Talk in Colour for providing the title music, and to Podbean for hosting, and we must also thank the following list of guests, without whom the podcast would really have just been two men chatting...

Christoper Biggins
Mark Kermode
Sir Patrick Moore
Ted Sorensen
Jo Caulfield
Graham Taylor
Rick Wakeman
Sir Tim Rice
Ivan Mauger
Bill Pertwee
Peter Dixon
Karolyn Grimes
Robin Ince
Stephen K Amos
Dave Pegg
Zandra Rhodes
Eliza Carthy
Lady Elizabeth Anson
Mike Peters
Martyn Joseph
Corey Collymore
Richard Adams
Tony Hawks
Katie Hopkins
Paul Daniels
Peter Duncan

An amazing list when you see all those names together, and I must thank Dave who did the hard work and managed to secure interviews with almost all of the guests we have had!

Thanks again, see you in our next project!

Neil

Words Fail Me Podcast at the Baftas

This month Dave and Neil are back in London, on the day of the BAFTA awards. Sadly our invites were not in the post, so we retreated to a noisy coffee shop in Convent Garden to record this months podcast.

Peter Duncan, in his car

Our Guest dictionary opener this month was Peter Duncan, ex-Blue Peter presenter, actor, and former Chief Scout. He chats to Dave about the Scout Movement, the importance of looking to the future, and the word 'only'.

Dave and Neil then go on to discuss Onions (this is an onion flower by the way), Haggling versus ONO, climbing steps and carefully avoiding the topic of One Night Stands.

Apologies for all the background noise, we will never learn! Download at itunes or here at Podbean

Neil and Dave

It may only been a week since the last podcast went online, but we are back already!

In the first podcast of the New Year we visited the Comedy Pub in London, for no other reason than it was raining, and it looked nice and warm and dry.

Dave sorted a brilliant first guest dictionary opener for this month, none other than the magician Paul Daniels.

Paul Daniels

The interview was recorded just before the painful incident that recently got him in the news. Dave and Paul chat about how to do magic, the Olympics, the joys of being an entertainer and he even teaches Dave a new trick!

We then go on to talk about his chosen page, and the conversation covers topics such as the length of a novel, Super Nova and the concept of Nowhere.

Dave

Thanks again to Talk in Colour for the music, and you can find out where you can see Paul Daniels on his website.

Words Fail Me Podcast Dec 2011

How late can a podcast be? Well here is your answer, the Words Fail Me Christmas special is released in mid January. Merry Christmas!

It's worth waiting for though, Dave and Neil revisit the British Library cafe and discuss words on a page of the dictionary chosen by Katie Hopkins.

Katie Hopkins

Katie Hopkins is known for being on the Apprentice and famously saying 'no' to Lord Sugar, and also took part in the ITV reality show I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here. She chats to Dave about the meaning of celebrity, Christmas and Family.

Dave and Neil also give presents to each other, talk about typewriters and printing, and the most christmassy of all subjects... tyres.

Neil also has a bad joke day.
